Eco-friendly Athletic Gear

Eco-friendly Athletic Gear

As I’ve said before, I’m always on the lookout for eco-friendly gear. At the current moment, it’s still a bit hard. You have to know where to look; you have to keep looking; and you have to stay on top of the lingo and read between the lines. It’s not easy, but it can be done. As far as outdoor athletic gear goes though, the word on the street is that one day (hopefully soon) it’ll be as easy as reading the tag. According to Nate Simmons of Polartec, “leaders in the outdoor apparel industry are working on establishing standards so that apparel can be rated, the way appliances are with the Energy Star label”. Until that happens though, here are some to tide you over…

I hear “green” products will be a bigger hit in 2009. People have already gotten over the hump of paying more for an uglier/weaker but greener car. Why not clothing!

I say YES to anything that’s better for the earth. Yes, of course, you have to pay more, but I think companies are making some headway with that issue. As I know it, as far as food is concerned, Stop & Shop is making their own line of ‘organic’ products that are actually affordable. I can’t see why clothing would not go in the same direction eventually. What’s good for the earth is good for us. :)
